The Fouth Wall Magic System
When I first had the idea for The Author Dimension it was built on the concept “You are what you read.” That idea bloomed into a unique world where books can literally change reality.
While magic in many fantasy stories is often “useable” like a spell or superpower, the magic in the Author Dimension is more of a phenomenon. The magic is there and if you can gain some sort of understanding you can learn to manipulate around it or with it.
The Third Eye
In the Author Dimension, it’s possible to send your consciousness out across the Book Dimension and observe other worlds. You may witness scenes such as two passengers riding a train discussing whether or not they should skip through time or perhaps a young prince on his first day at magic school. Some authors like Andre Neri spend hours gazing into the worlds beyond, while others struggle to see anything except words on a page.
Literary Echo
In the Author Dimension, what you read and write can change your personality and your fate. Looking for some romance? Crack open those romance novels and some love should come your way soon. I just hope you’re reading books about stable relationships, because if not, you’re in for a bumpy ride.
Elevating
Similar to Literary Echo, reading also boosts the writer. Reading someone’s book gives them leadership power. Don’t like your principal? Get all your friends to read someone else’s book and you’re sure to find the power dynamics at your school changing soon.
While this can be empowering it can also be disorienting to have reality rewritten on a regular basis.
World Fusion
Sometimes authors become so connected to the worlds in their books that they gain the ability to manipulate that world not just observe. Wish your protagonist would stop making really dumb decisions? Now’s your chance to change that!
Fracturing
Thinking about using a pen name? Don’t take the decision lightly. In the Author Dimension, using a pen name splits a person in two creating two distinct people in one body.
Immortality
You better have a great author photo in the back of your book because that will be your image for the rest of your long life. Immortality is not guaranteed, but as long as you maintain a consistent readership, you will not age. Classic authors like Gredor d’Tellar have managed to live for hundreds of years withstanding the test of time.
I have loved watching my characters clash about their unique perspectives of the world. My main character Andre Neri leans deep into The Third Eye and his belief in it runs his life while his ex Becky connects better with the Literary Echo concept and all but outright rejects Andre's way of thinking.
