Since F. S. Adona, president of Gredoria, stole his first novel and claimed it for herself, Andre has fought to keep from caving into the abyss she ripped in his soul. He believes that performing his latest novel Throne of Bones on the metro will keep his creative spirit alive. But when a prejudiced stranger's violent reaction to his performance leaves him physically and emotionally jarred, Andre must decide whether to share his dark stories with a world that fears what it doesn't understand, or risk widening the festering hole in his soul.

Andre grimaced at the floor-to-ceiling poster on the wall of the stuffy subway terminal as the buzz of commuters ebbed and flowed around him. King Lainisæus, the hero of the world-renowned Rhimilæum Saga, leaned forward on his throne, his gold-speckled eyes gazing at Andre as if seeing him through the bounds of the poster, or through the Fourth Wall itself.

The words Rhimilæum Con ran above the king’s gleaming, royal mane. Below him, a tagline popped: Guest appearance by author President F. S. Adona.

Andre squeezed the straps of his backpack, knuckles turning white. That should have been Andre’s name on the poster, but F. S. Adona stole his book and used it to rise to the precipice of Gredoria crushing him in her shadow. But with The Blessed Prince, she’d also stolen his connection to its world, Holissa, and its characters—ripped them from his being—leaving him shattered and broken.

His friends, especially V, were pushing him to join them at Rhimilæum Con, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Andre clutched the talisman around his neck and placed it over his heart. Over the name Lainisæus tattooed on his...

What genre is Throne of Bones?

Throne of Bones is an urban fantasy with meta fiction and epic fantasy vibes. It's moody, cerebral, fast-paced, and an intimate view into the world of The Fourth Wall.

Is Throne of Bones a novel?

Throne of Bones started as a slice-of-life moment from The Fourth Wall. I loved the idea of the scene but saw quickly that it halted the momentum of the story as a whole. So I deleted it from the manuscript. Fast forward a few months, I decided to share something with readers to give them a taste of the world and my writing style. I pulled the scene from the trash bin and turned it into a full-fledged stand-alone short story.

How is Throne of Bones connected to the greater story?

I will tread carefully to avoid spoilers! I call Throne of Bones an unofficial prologue to The Fourth Wall. Throne of Bones is an amazing introduction to the themes and voice featured in The Fourth Wall. Both stories follow the same protagonist, Andre Neri, a struggling author doing his best to navigate The Author Dimension. Several characters from The Fourth Wall are mentioned in Throne of Bones though Andre is the only character shared between the two stories. (Sort of... 😉) Andre's struggles are physically different in The Fourth Wall, but they branch off the same veins. While Throne of Bones isn't required reading for the greater series, I have left a few bread crumbs in both stories. Gobble those morsels up as you follow the trail!
